Programa de Pós-Graduação em Bioquímica – Graduate Program in Biochemistry

The Graduate Program in Biochemistry (PPGBQA) is pleased to celebrate another international recognition of its scientific research.

The article “Precision Fermentation as an Alternative to Animal Protein, a Review”, published in 2024 in the journal Fermentation (MDPI), has received the Best Paper Award, an honor granted to outstanding papers published by the journal.

The publication was authored by Marília M. Knychala, Larissa A. Boing, Jaciane L. Ienczak, Débora Trichez, and Boris U. Stambuk. Dr. Marília M. Knychala is currently a Senior Postdoctoral Fellow in the PPGBQA, under the supervision of Professor Boris U. Stambuk, a permanent faculty member of the Graduate Program.

The review provides a comprehensive overview of recent advances in precision fermentation for the production of alternative animal proteins, addressing sustainability, microbial engineering, bioprocess scale-up, and industrial applications.

This award highlights the scientific excellence and international impact of the research conducted within PPGBQA and reinforces the Program’s contribution to advancing Biochemistry and Biotechnology.
