International Collaborations

– The project “Metabolic markers of severity prognosis in patients affected by COVID-19” is a collaboration between the Laboratory of Bioenergetics and Oxidative Stress (LABOX / UFSC) coordinated by Dr. Alexandra Latini and the clinical team coordinated by Dr. Ramiro Zepeda of the University of Chile. The project seeks to better understand the mechanisms involved in the progression and sequelae of the COVID-19 viral infection. The validation biochemical markers based on metabolic function and clinical profile can serve as a quantifiable tools to predict the course of the disease, allowing the reduction of the mortality rates and the optimizing of public resources. The project was financed by the Chilean agency Agencia Nacional de Investigación y Desarrollo (ANID), in the approximate amount of $ 100,000.00 and involves the participation of PPGBQA graduate students. Currently, the students Jennyffer Souza (Ph.D.) and Romuel Silva (Master), supervised by Dr. Alexandra Latini, are developing the project with the Hospital de Rancagua, Rancagua, Chile.
