International Collaborations
– The project “Metabolic markers of severity prognosis in patients affected by COVID-19” is a collaboration between the Bioenergetics and Oxidative Stress Laboratory (LABOX/UFSC), coordinated by Dr. Alexandra Latini, and the clinical team coordinated by Dr. Ramiro Zepeda at the University of Chile. The project seeks to better understand the mechanisms involved in the progression and sequelae of the COVID-19 viral infection. The validation of a profile of biochemical and cinical markers based on metabolic function can serve as a quantifiable tool to predict the course of the disease, allowing the reduction of the mortality rates and the optimization of public resources. The project was financed by the Chilean National Agency for Research and Development (ANID), receveing the approximate amount of $ 100,000.00, and involves the participation of PPGBQA graduate students. Currently, the students Jennyffer Souza (doctoral degree) and Romuel Silva (master’s degree), supervised by Dr. Alexandra Latini, are developing the project with the Hospital de Rancagua, Rancagua, Chile.
